- Review job sheet and schedule to identify all job requirements
- Select appropriate type of plant and associated equipment, according to job requirement, to maximise efficiency and effectiveness of waste placement and compaction
- Identify and obtain other tools and materials required to meet work requirements
- Select and fit emergency and personal protective equipment in accordance with job requirements, manufacturers' specifications, company requirements and relevant legislation
- Ensure operator has the appropriate licence in accordance with company requirements and relevant legislation
- Assesslandfill cell to determine waste placement requirements and cell capacity
- Identify and manage potential risks and hazards to job requirements in accordance with company requirements, OHS and other relevant legislation
- Erect safety barriers and signage at work sites to ensure safety of surrounding personnel and public, in accordance with company requirements and relevant legislation
- Perform routine checks on plant
- Conduct a visual check of plant to pinpoint damage, leaks, obstruction, component wear or potential hazards
- Test plant systems in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and company requirements
- Conduct service checks to ensure water, oil, fuel, air pressure and greasing are maintained at appropriate levels in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and company requirements
- Check emergency and personal protective equipment to ensure correct operation
- Check and test associated equipment to ensure it is operating in accordance with manufacturers' specifications
- Start and operate plant
- Start and operate plant in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and company requirements
- Operate and drive plant in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company requirements, road and traffic regulations, and other relevant legislation
- Maintain continuous observation of surrounding environment to identify and avoid or minimise potential hazards
- Monitor plant operation and gauges to determine operational functioning

- Place and compact waste
- Select waste type to be placed in accordance with stage of batter development, personnel and public safety, company requirements and relevant legislation
- Place and compact waste safely and efficiently in designated area using appropriate placement and compaction methods
- Use correct moving and compaction techniques to aid the formation of waste battering angle and tight compaction of waste
- Maintain visual checks to identify potential hazards during placement and compaction
- Use moving and compaction techniques to minimise the excessive creation of dust or contamination to surrounding environment
- Place smaller waste on top of larger waste objects on the batter to ensure even placement and no large waste objects protruding from the batter
- Traverse placed waste to ensure a smooth, tight, compacted surface
- Shut down and secure plant
- Complete shut-down procedures in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and company requirements
- Park or store plant in a safe location to avoid damage to plant, obstruction of surrounding site activity or unauthorised use
- Carry out housekeeping to ensure cleanliness of plant and associated equipment
- Conduct service checks to ensure water, oil, fuel, air pressure and greasing are maintained at appropriate levels in accordance with manufacturers' specifications
- Report any plant or equipment faults or defects to relevant personnel
